Dear Fellow Union Members,
I am running for President of OPEIU, Local 30 because I feel it is time for a change; We need to bring the Union back to the people, the MEMBERS. We have a solid financial foundation and now it’s time to focus more specifically on the needs of Members; We deserve more for our Union Dues. We deserve to have our Union Representatives more visible and involved in the workplace. The Labor Management Partnership (LMP) is a one-sided partnership which truly is no partnership at all; We need to work towards a mutually beneficial partnership. While a Kaiser Permanente Employee, I am also concerned about the activities that affect our Brother and Sister Members within Los Angeles and Arizona.
I have been a Member of OPEIU, Local 30 and Employee of Kaiser Permanente for over 18 years. During that time I have worked within Environmental Services (EVS) in the capacity as an EVS Specialist and EVS Waste Specialist. I currently work at the San Diego Medical Center within Inpatient Nursing as a Hospital Unit Coordinator. I have been a Union Steward for over twelve (12) years and, for most of that time, I have been a Senior Steward. I have worked within several committees representing groups of members (Nurse Staffing Ratio/Patient Care Assistant Redesign Committee, Health Connect HUC Workgroup Committee and the Workplace Safety DOU Department Based Team). Currently, I am a Member of the Communication Committee and am working to develop the future Local 30 Store ( a place where Members can buy Union Logo’d items).
With your support, when I am elected OPEIU, Local 30 President I would like to work collaboratively with our Executive Board, Union Representatives and Members in order to transform our Union into a true force within our workplaces. Members will be proud and Management will have greater respect for our Union. Our Union will help Members so that they are better respected for the value they bring to their workplaces.
