The results of the Kaiser Permanente/ OPEIU, Local 30 contract ratification are in; As expected, the proposed agreement was passed by a significant margin. The confirmation comes from several reliable sources from within the Union, however, when questioned, the Union refused to provide specific voting results (how many Members voted for and how many Members voted against the proposed agreement). Despite the Union's stonewalling, according to other sources, we are able to estimate the total number of those participating at approximately 200 Members. One source from within the Union described the level of Member participation as very low and categorized it as, "disappointing".
* Further, the KP Employees working in Los Angeles who are Members of United Healthcare Workers West/SEIU (UHW-West/SEIU) are receiving the exact same percentage increases as the KP Employees who are Members of OPEIU, Local 30 in San Diego. However, the UHW-West/SEIU Members currently receive from about $2 to $4 MORE PER HOUR (see: UHW-West Contract) than OPEIU, Local 30 Members who perform similar work. Therefore, if this agreement is ratified, the already wide wage gap will grow even wider, every year, for the next few years.
