A message from Richard Rosas, assistant director of Labor Relations, to all Kaiser Permanente Southern California employees regarding expected strike activity.
Specialty Practice Nurses, represented by the United Nurses Association of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP), recently notified Kaiser Permanente of their intention to strike beginning on Monday, April 7, 7 a.m. and returning to work on Saturday, April 12, 7 a.m.
We regret that we have not been able to establish a fair and equitable contract with the union and its members. Kaiser Permanente believes in the bargaining process and stands ready to return to discussions to resolve differences as soon as possible.
As the region’s largest health care provider, we expect to maintain normal operations during this scheduled work stoppage to ensure that we meet the health needs and expectations of our members, patients, and communities. To accomplish this, all other Kaiser Permanente staff should report to work as scheduled. In addition, all employees with collective bargaining agreements in effect are expected to honor the "no strike" provisions in their contracts and report to work as scheduled. We will notify you in the event that operational changes are required.
During this period, many of you may be questioned by members or visitors regarding the work stoppage and picketing activity. If that situation should arise, we ask that you please reassure these people by telling them that while we regret this labor dispute, Kaiser Permanente’s ability to address their needs will not be impeded by this situation. If pressed for additional information, please indicate that we cannot provide more; express regret for any inconvenience or concern the activity may have caused; and again reassure the questioner that we are ready and able to help them.
