Dear Fellow OPEIU, Local 30 Members and Coworkers,


For more than ten years, I have been a Member of OPEIU, Local 30. I have had the opportunity to meet and develop friendships with many of you. During my employment with Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, I have served as one of your dedicated Union Stewards and have worked to protect our Union contract by ensuring that Local 30 Members receive all the benefits to which we are entitled. During previous contract negotiations, I've participated alongside fellow Members for numerous improvements within our contract.

I don't believe in being a 'yes man' to either Management or to our own Union Staff; when I have believed in causes which would benefit our Membership and are righteous, I have stood by them, even when I have been standing alone.

Our current CFO received an annual salary of $135,227 (according to 2006, Department of Labor financial reports) which were paid from our dues. With your help, when elected to the Executive Board, I will always do my best to provide the best representation for my fellow Union Members. I promise to support eliminating unnecessary expenses (such as reducing our CFO’s salary to a more appropriate level and reducing the size of our San Diego Union office) which will result in a more efficient Union and potentially lower dues for us Members.

  • I believe in winning grievances, some of which I have filed and won for fellow Union Members despite being told by one of our Union Representatives not to pursue the issue as it was not win-able.

  • I believe in providing the higher level of service which we dues-paying Members deserve and have not received for far too long (i.e. when you call me, I'll call you back).

  • I believe in providing accurate, relevant, and timely information for my fellow Members of this Union. This is why, when our current Executive Director failed, for nearly six years, to keep the promise he made in April of 2002 (to create and maintain a website for the Members of our Union), I created one for us - www.OPEIU30.org.

  • I believe in participating in efforts which support organized labor in general. I have contributed to campaigns with numerous Labor Unions such as the AFL-CIO, Change To Win, Communications Workers of America, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, International Guards Union of America, Service Employees International Union, Unite Here, United Farm Workers, United Food & Commercial Workers, and United Government Security Officers of America.

  • I believe in building a stronger, more united OPEIU, Local 30 and I believe listening to our Union's Members and utilizing their talents and skills is how we will do it.

  • I believe in our Union's slogan, "NEW DIRECTIONS NEW STRENGTH", we just need to ensure we're heading in the right direction!

    It is for all these reasons that I am applying for a position as an Executive Board member.

    I'm asking for more than your vote, I'm asking for your support.
